Charity features in Wooden Boat magazine

7th November 2017

Turn to Starboard has featured in an article on mental health in the latest edition of Wooden Boat magazine.

The story follows how charity beneficiary Alan ‘Al’ Purdy, a former trooper in the Household Cavalry, was left with no memory after falling from his horse on duty. The 44-year-old spent a year in hospital after ripping his hippocampus, part of the brain which controls cognitive skills, memory and attention span.

Al, of Ouston, near Newcastle has spent the past 15 years building his life back together and three years ago started sailing with Turn to Starboard. He has overcome significant challenges to gain his Day Skipper qualification and is now working towards his Yachtmaster exam.

You can purchase a digital edition of the magazine here, or print copies are available in good newsagents.
