Tony Yeardley has scooped The Croft Yachtmaster Award in recognition of his efforts progressing through the RYA Yachtmaster training programme at Turn to Starboard. The award is presented annually to a Yachtmaster under training who has demonstrated resilience and effort to overcome the personal and academic challenge.
Tony, 39, was medically discharged from the Army in 2013. He found a passion for sailing after taking part in a tall ships race that year and enrolled on the Yachtmaster programme in January 2014. He passed his Powerboat Instructor course earlier this year and hopes to complete the Yachtmaster course in the near future.
Turn to Starboard CEO Shaun Pascoe said: “Tony would be the first to say that the theoretical elements of the Yachtmaster programme did not come easily to him. Despite this he has shown dogged determination and invested considerable time which has paid dividends, as once difficult concepts he now grasps completely. At the same time he has developed a focused positivity towards others which established him as a real asset to Turn to Starboard and a critical friend to the team.”
Tony added: “This award has come as a total surprise and I feel humbled and privileged to be chosen. I’d like to say a huge thanks to Mr and Mrs Croft and to Turn to Starboard for their incredible support.”
