Set sail on a family sailing adventure with Turn to Starboard

14th June 2019

Service families affected by military operations are invited to spend some quality time together on board a yacht with Turn to Starboard this summer.

Thanks to the incredible support we receive from Help for Heroes and the Lest We Forget Association, we are able to offer the chance for families affected by military service to come together and sail along the beautiful Cornish coast with an experienced RYA Yachtmaster. No previous experience is necessary and participants can take part in as much or as little sailing as they choose. Days will be spent learning the basics of sailing while exploring the idyllic hidden coves and picturesque creeks around Falmouth, while kids can get hands-on with hoisting the sails, helping to steer and looking out for pirates!

Accommodation is provided on board the yacht which will be moored at different locations each night, with the chance to step ashore to spend a day exploring the local area. Sailing trips run from Saturday afternoon to Tuesday morning, or Tuesday afternoon to Friday morning. All we ask is that you do not bring any electronic devices and use phones as little as possible!

Due to the capacity limit of our yachts, we are only able to offer sailing breaks to a maximum of five participants per family (minimum age for children is 5 years old). Family sailing holidays are free for participants, with all costs including the yacht, skipper, food, moorings and fuel included. Travel costs to and from Falmouth are not included.

People with special physical requirements are asked to discuss any accessibility needs beforehand. To find out more, or to book your sailing holiday, please contact Helen by email at or call 01326 314262.

Family sailing review by Emma,

“I can’t thank Turn to Starboard and Steve the skipper enough for such a fabulous few days sailing with my family. We all enjoyed learning the ropes and getting hands on. The dingy rides were great fun, especially at night seeing the bioluminescent plankton lighting up. The Helford river was just an amazing place to moor overnight. Steve was fantastic with the children, allowing them to steer the boat and teaching them knots, sails and rules of the sea. Steve went above and beyond to make our holiday so special and memorable. We will always remember our special few days on Cisne. Thank you so much to all at Turn to Starboard.”

Family sailing review by Amy,
“We have just returned home from a family sail with Turn To Starboard with skipper Steve. We have honestly had the absolute best time! Steve was understanding & extremely patient with our sons who both had autism and made sure they had a blast whilst we all learned lots of new skills. Turn To Starboard has given us an opportunity to do something completely different as a family and we’ll treasure the memories we made this week. Thank you so much to everyone at Turn To Starboard.”
