The challenge

On August 5, 2017 a chosen few - many with little or no sailing experience - will embark on the journey of a lifetime.

Harnessing the power of the wind, 17 crew members will challenge their mind and bodies to sail around the coast of Britain.

Turn to Starboard's Round Britain Challenge 2017 offers serving and retired Armed Forces personnel affected by military operations the chance to rebuild their lives and focus on a successful future.

The Voyage

Setting sail from our base at Falmouth in Cornwall, the crew will circumnavigate Britain in a clockwise direction on board the 'Spirit of Falmouth'. The gaff-rigged schooner will be home to a crew of 17 veterans and led by two former Royal Marines who have retrained as Yachtmasters through the charity.

The team will work together to navigate Britain's spectacular coastline while visiting places such as Liverpool, The Orkney Isles, Newcastle and Great Yarmouth.

The voyage is FREE for the successful applicants and all training, kit and food is provided. Crew members will also have the opportunity to gain internationally recognised RYA qualifications. The expedition aims to help participants gain new skills while raising awareness of the challenges some veterans face after leaving the military.
