Payroll Giving

Payroll Giving, also known as Give As You Earn (GAYE), is a really cost-effective way of supporting our work.

Regular donations are vital to fund our support and by donating through Payroll Giving you can make your money go even further. Payroll Giving is a HM Customs &  Revenue scheme that enables you to donate to charity, tax-free and direct from your pay packet.

Not only is Payroll Giving a really simple way to donate to charity, it’s also the most tax effective because donations are deducted before any tax is paid.  What this means to you is:

For a £1 donation only 80p comes out of your salary, the taxman will pay the remaining 20p.

If you pay a higher rate of tax (40%), only 60p comes out of your salary and the taxman will pay the remaining 40p.

Payroll Giving is a very flexible system. You can donate as much or as little as you wish. If at any time you would like to change the amount or cancel your donation, you simply contact your payroll department and they will be able to manage this for you. It is designed to be flexible and friendly to use.

Setting up a Payroll Giving scheme is easy, and the costs to businesses are minimal. If the scheme is not on offer at your workplace, why not suggest it to your HR or payroll department?

There are also added benefits for your employer, such as:

  • Implementing Payroll Giving means your employer may be eligible for the Government’s Quality Mark Award.
  • There are other national awards as well, from National Payroll Giving Excellence Awards to pay & Benefits Awards. Winning an award for a successful scheme can create lots of positive internal and external PR.
  • It will enable your employers to monitor the level of charitable giving within their business. The PR opportunities in this will be excellent.
  • It enhances your employers charitable giving and corporate social responsibility profile with little effort or cost to their business.
  • It will boost workforce morale and motivation, demonstrating that your employer cares about making a positive impact outside of their business.
  • Any administration costs involved are also tax deductible.

Donate in celebration

Whether you are planning a birthday, wedding, anniversary or christening, supporting our work here at Turn to Starboard can be a simple and personal way to celebrate your special occasion whilst supporting our Service personnel, and their famlies, in their time of need. For an alternative to the traditional gift why not invite family and friends to donate to Turn to Starboard in lieu of a gift?

Have you considered setting up an online donation page for your special occasion? The process couldn’t be easier, simply set up a donations page by clicking here. It’ll only take a couple of minutes and you can personalise your page with photos and your own message.

Donate in memory of a loved one

You can celebrate the life of a loved one and do something amazing for those rebuilding their lives after life changing experiences while serving in our Armed Forces.

Giving a gift in memory of a loved one is a wonderful way to celebrate their life. Perhaps you could ask for donations instead of floral tributes or choose to honour their memory through fundraising activities, a memorial fund, creating a Zero to Hero scholarship or taking a Service family out sailing.

There are lots of ways you can pay tribute to a loved one and support our our work with Armed Forces personnel and their families. If you would like to have a chat with us about your options or any ideas you may have please get in touch.
