Payroll Giving, also known as Give As You Earn (GAYE), is a really cost-effective way of supporting our work.
Regular donations are vital to fund our support and by donating through Payroll Giving you can make your money go even further. Payroll Giving is a HM Customs & Revenue scheme that enables you to donate to charity, tax-free and direct from your pay packet.
Not only is Payroll Giving a really simple way to donate to charity, it’s also the most tax effective because donations are deducted before any tax is paid.
Payroll Giving is a very flexible system. You can donate as much or as little as you wish. If at any time you would like to change the amount or cancel your donation, you simply contact your payroll department, and they will be able to manage this for you. It is designed to be flexible and friendly to use.
Setting up a Payroll Giving scheme is easy, and the costs to businesses are minimal. If the scheme is not on offer at your workplace, why not suggest it to your HR or payroll department?

The Benefits of Tall Ship Sailing for Corporate Teams
Tall ship sailing offers a unique and transformative experience for corporate teams, blending adventure with powerful lessons in teamwork, resilience, and leadership.
The environment aboard a tall ship is unlike any office setting - dynamic, unpredictable, and deeply collaborative. This setting naturally fosters team building, as crew members must work in unison to hoist sails, navigate waters, and manage the daily operations of the vessel. Every task relies on effective communication and trust, emphasising the importance of each team member’s role.
The challenges presented at sea also enhance bonding. Whether facing unpredictable weather or mastering a difficult manoeuvre, individuals form strong connections through shared experiences and mutual support. These intense, often fun and meaningful moments create lasting memories that strengthen interpersonal relationships back in the workplace.
Sailing also cultivates resilience. Conditions change quickly, and participants must adapt, problem-solve, and stay focused under pressure. These situations mirror high-stakes corporate environments, training teams to remain calm, flexible, and solutions-oriented in the face of adversity.
Leadership naturally emerges on a tall ship. Crew members take on rotating responsibilities, allowing individuals to step into leadership roles, delegate tasks, and motivate others. The ship becomes a living model for decentralised leadership and situational awareness, developing confidence and strategic thinking.
Finally, tall ship sailing promotes cohesion. Success at sea depends on a group’s ability to synchronise their actions and work toward common goals. The result is a tightly knit team with a deeper understanding of collaboration and mutual accountability.Overall, tall ship sailing is a powerful metaphor for corporate dynamics, offering an unforgettable and practical way to build stronger, more cohesive, and resilient teams ready to tackle complex challenges together.

Every donation made to Turn to Starboard is greatly appreciated. Unless we are fundraising for a specific campaign, all donations go into a central 'pot', which is used to cover a variety of core operational and running costs. Maintaining a fleet of vessels is expensive, so we promise that your donation, however big or small, is always very welcome and put to good use!
Per pound donated in 2024, 85p was spent on charitable activities and 15p was spent on administration. We are very proud of this statistic.
-
Typically, all donations received will go into a central 'pot' and will be spent as needed by the charity. However, if you wish to support a specific purchase, please call our office line and a member of our team will be happy to discuss this with you.
-
We gratefully accept donations made via BACS, online via our Just Giving page, standing order or cheque. There are other option for donating, such as Payroll Giving – see our Support Us page for more information on making a donation.
